You are invited to attend a day conference on the Repair of Cob (see the details below). This event is part of the Conservation and Repair of Cob, a module from the MA Architectural Conservation programme. The details of this are also included below.

Module Aims:
• to provide an understanding of the properties of earth as a building material and how it is used in construction, particularly in the region;
• to identify structural problems and other defects in cob buildings;
• to specify sympathetic, non-disruptive repair.
Objectives/Learning Outcomes:
1. understand the properties of earth as a building material;
2. have an awareness of traditional earth building techniques and in depth knowledge of the cob technique;
3. observe and diagnose defects in cob building;
4. prepare specification for suitable repair techniques.

ACCESSIBLE PARKING
Coming from A38 west bound, follow signs into Plymouth city centre.
As you approach the city centre along Exeter Street get into the central lane. At Charles Cross Roundabout (ruins of bombed church) leave following signs for A38, Liskeard and Railway Station. This is shown on campus map (see attachment).
Continue to follows signs A38, Liskeard and Railway Station along Cobourg Street.
Do not turn right up North Hill after the Drakes Circus shopping centre!
The next roundabout is North Cross. Here drive completely around the roundabout following signs for Exeter returning back towards Charles Cross Roundabout along Cobourg Street. Get into the left hand lane when leaving North Cross Roundabout.

The main vehicular access to the University is the first turning on the left and is signposted. Then turn right and drive to the disabled parking opposite Roland Levinsky building the large copper clad and glass building (see campus map No 33).
